w211 722.9 Transmission!!I NEED HELP ASAP!!!!!!!

In March of this year my 2008 W211 E350W, 722.9 Transmission started Jerking when I would start it up and when I would attempt to drive it, it would not shift out of 1st gear. I also noticed that the C/S button by the shift stick when pressed would not change from Custom to Sport mode on the dash. I would turn the key off wait a few minutes start the vehicle again it would be fine. Last month ir started doing it again so I sent it in to the local Mercedes Benz dealership to have it checked. The error code coming off the Tranny was 0778 B1 Brake Solenoid Electrical Fault, They recommended changing the entire transmission. The vehicle has 121,000 miles on it and I was not convinced that it was no more than the Transmission Conductor Plate so I took the vehicle back home. bought an ICARSOFT MB II Scanner and scanned the vehicle myself and got the same code. I dropped the pan removed the Valve Body/ Conductor Plate. The conductor Plate was a Siemens VGA2 NAG2. I went through a Mercedes Benz Authorized Shop and got a Brand New Mercedes Benz Conductor Plate. Mercedes Benz explained they no longer supplied the VGA2 NAG2 conductor plate brand new so they sent me a brand new Continental VGA3 NAG2 Conductor Plate as a replacement and said it was interchangeable. I installed the plate put the Transmission back together fill it up properly and scanned it again. This time the only code that came up was that the Transmission Conductor Plate needed to be programmed with the VIN. To make sure no other codes would appear I le the vehicle run for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes I shifted it from P-N-D-N-R a few times and scanned it again. NO CODES except the conductor plate needed to be coded. So I drove the vehicle from my Drive way to the corned street appx 100 Yards and back. Still not shifting out of 1st gear. Scanned it again and No Error Codes except Conductor Plate needed to be coded.

Sent the vehicle to the local Mercedes dealership to have the transmission coded. After coding the dealership called me to advise me that the Transmission was putting out a 0894 Fault Code indicating the transmission was slipping and still not shifting out of 1st gear, and I needed once again a New Transmission. I had them open the transmission and check for metal shavings in the transmission as I had done when I installed the Conductor Plate and same as I had found there was none. I ask them how far had they test driven the car before the error code popped up? They never took the vehicle out of the service shop before getting the error and is now telling me the vehicle wont even move, but it was moving fine when I sent it there. Ad how can they say the vehicle wont shift out of 1st gear if they are telling me the vehicle barely moves?'.

I went there spoke to the General Manager Mr Stuber and inquired had the Tech cleared the Fault Codes and the Stored Fault Codes then test drove the vehicle before scanning it, however they were unsure and said they would have the technican do just that. I am already almost 2300.00 into the repair of this vehicle and Mercedes seem to have no ideal what it would take to repair my vehicle except replace the Transmission and Torque Converter for $6,900.00

Does anyone have any suggestions what may possibly be going on here. There is no other shops I can fine here in New Orleans that will even touch the transmission since they don't have experience with it.

Have you tried resetting the transmission? place the key in the second position, press the accelerator all the way to the floor and you will hear a button behind the pedal suppress. Hold the accelerator down for 30 seconds and then release. turn the key to the full off position and wait for five minutes. during this time dont touch anything in the vehicle, dont open the doors windows etc. after the wait period try again and see if you get the same result. this procedure places the transmission in a relearning mode. I hope this helps!

I recently changed my conductor plate and it was plug and play, no coding needed. I got it from FCP Euro, and here's a link, but my tran is 722.6 and yours is the 722.9

Is it possible you have the wrong conductor plate? I'd have car towed out of there coz it somehow feels like they're trying to have you dump your $$ in that tranny!

Tried That also. Do you know if since I went from a VGA2 NAG2 to a VGA3 NAG2 if anything has to be done in addition to adding the VIN to the Conductor Plate. I have a strange feeling this has something to do with the programming the Mercedes Tech did. This error was not there before he programmed the transmission. Additionally this guy was recommending a full transmission replacement but when I ask him for the transmission data that mad him come to this conclusion he had nothing saved to show me. He didn't even follow the protocol Mercedes require dealerships to follow when requesting a transmission replacement under the factory warranty. Mine is not under warranty, however he should be able to provide me with the same data to prove the transmission is dead

My car needs a new conductor plate, waiting for the part to come in to the local dealer; don't have the facilities to do this repair myself, would have loved to have done it.

I had different faults that pointed to a defective conductor plate - but went through the same process you are. The VGS2 is replaced with VGS3. I received the same part as you, same manufacturer. I did the work, then plugged in the old VGS2 to have the information taken from it, plugged in the VGS3 fitted in the trans to have it coded. There are several steps and live verification back to Germany for the coding to be done right. I was standing next to the tech as my car was being done as I was also the one plugging and unplugging the conductor plates. The first attempt it error'd out at one of the steps - and as for seeing the process for the first time - I'm glad I had an experienced tech as he could navigate the process very well. Yes - the programming could be the problem. You mentioned 0778 B1 Brake Solenoid Electrical Fault - that is component Y3/8y5. Did you check that component while you had the conductor plate out? Here is a DropBox link to the information I used as I prepared for swapping out my conductor plate - hope this helps. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bwq99rwf0...nln30Qd3a?dl=0
