03 E500 Trunk release

Hello to all! I am new to forums and first time MB owner as well. We have a 2003 E500 and recently the trunk release button and remote stopped opening the trunk lid. I have checked the fuse in the trunk and also the wiring harness with no damage observed all wiring is intact...what or where do I go from here to diagnose this issue? Any suggestions or direction would be greatly appreciated since I do not care for the dealership "experience" and pricing...

Check if your 3rd brake light is working. IF not, it may be a broken ground in the wiring harness in the trunk.
A lot of people has this problem and you need to fix the broken brown ground wire in the wire loom.
