RED MESSAGE -- PICTURE OF BATTERY -- TAKE TO SERVICE CENTER

Title pretty much says it all -- 2006 E320CDI. The screen in front of the driver came up with this message. Message is in red, not the usual white. Shows a picture of a battery and says something like 'Have Vehicle Service' or 'Go to Service Center.' It's my MIL's car. Has about 115,000 miles on it.

Perhaps something like an alternator going out? Do they go out gradually? Or just boom, they're gone?

Scan it for codes. Otherwise it's just a guessing game trying to figure out what's wrong.

Someone with Star should be able to tell you exactly what the issue is.
