E500 oil capacity confusion

Just did my first oil change after buying the car. I pumped out just over 6L with my extractor. I know the engine takes 7.5L - 8L but it was sucking air to the point where it was definitely drained. I drained the oil with the filter already out to vent it. I then pour in the new oil, 5L from one container and 2.5L from another to make it 7.5L I check the oil level on the gauges, it reads 5.8L. I dontt have a dip stick. Not sure what going on but I know how much I put in. Any ideas?

Did you check the oil with engine running, or stopped.
Do it again first thing in the morning.
The car will warn you when you have low oil level with "Check at next fill-up" or will flash red alarm when you loose the pressure.
There is several liters difference between the 2.

I always drain my 2003 E500 from the bottom drain plug.
Change the filter, add 8 quarts and then check the level via the reading on the dash cluster.
Always comes out perfect.

Ok, checked again it said oil too low add 1.5L so I did. Now it says oil level correct and so far no warnings.

There is something wrong with the numbers you gave.
If you drain 6l, that means you had over 1l of old oil remaining in the engine. You add 7.5l of new oil, what makes 8.5l and then another 1.5l what makes 10 l total for 8 l crankcase?

Why did you assume that there was 1 quart left in the engine? He could have started out 1 quart low. Also is he really adding liters or quarts? In the US, everything is typically sold as quarts like those 5 quart jugs of oil. 9 quarts of oil is about 8.51 liters. So he may just have a half liter too much. Sensor could also be bad.

I believe that there was 1 quart soaked into the filter and I was also low. I pumped as much oil out as I could, it was literally just air coming out. Also, I dont believe it is a bad sensor because it gave me specific instructions for 1.5L to add.
