I have a few questions about a 06 E350 4matic that I might buy.

It all looks clean inside and out, But there are a few error codes. The screen in the instrument cluster says "BRAKE Service break visit workshop" and "Tele Aid malfunction Drive to wook shop" I hooked up my obd scanner and had a bunch of codes come up. The sealer said the O2 sensor needs replaced and that errors would go away. I'm going to attach a picture of the codes. Does anyone know if a new O2 sensor will clear the codes?

Thanks

Did you read the thread about the balance shaft issue?

https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...nce-shaft.html

Unless yours was replaced, I wouldn't bother with any 2006 E350. They also have SBC which 2007+ didn't have. The brake visit workshop could be something simple or the SBC needs to be replaced which is a 1k+ job, 2k at the dealer but indys usually do it for a little over 1k. No SBC on 2007+. But early 2007's still could have the balance shaft problem.

I had no idea about the balance shaft issue. Is there a way to tell by the vin? The seller tools me that the wear sensors need reset for the warning to go away.

Yes, you use a vin decoder to see what the engine number is. All 2006 are in the affected range so there's no need to check 2006 models. Some early 2007 models that were made through 9/2006 had the bad balance shaft also, but you should use the vin decoder to verify the engine number of the car.

SBC had so many activations before the pump would fail. There's a warning message that kicks in once you hit a certain number of activations. But resetting that number just means that you won't get a warning before the brakes fail. You will all of a suddenly lose about 90% of your braking when the pump fails. And you will have no idea when that will happen with a system that's been reset. Fun times. 2007+ is just normal brakes.

What's your question? That car is affected by the balance shaft problem. Engine number is 30 099113. They didn't replace it with a good one til 30 468993. Anyway, that's about your most basic luxury model with just the P1 package. Pretty much no other options aside from folding rear seat. Not even wired for bluetooth. I'd skip all 2006 models. Look for cars with options like parktronic, bixenons, keyless go, pano sunroof, power trunk closer, sport package, real leather, wood steering wheel, etc.

Big fat pass unless it was free. Balance shaft failure is complete engine removal. That model will be an absolute money pit. Stick with 2007-2009 and if 2007 check engine # to be 100% sure it’s post-fix as shown above.

balance shaft, SBC brakes, already has CEL AND additional costs from 4matic. Better have a blank check ready every year. A later year will be a far far smarter choice. There’s plenty out there ditch this one
