Wipers not working

For a while the wipers haven’t been working. The motor was changed and still didn’t work. The motor was confirmed to work as well as the wiper switch and there was power (correct amount) going to the wiper motor, still nothing (the washer didn’t work either). Then a couple months later it started working again but it was still a bit wonky. If the speed was on full it change from fast to slow, sometimes going really slow for a couple secs.
Then it stopped working again and now a month later the wipers move halfway up the windscreen and stopped, (the washer sprayed when I press the stalk). The wipers didn’t do anything after that despite roasting the stalk. I tuned the car off and pushed the wipers down, turned it on again the the wipers nor washers seem to work. The headlight washers always worked fine.

What could be th cause of this as the motor, stalk, washer pump and rain sensor seem to be fine. Is there a SAM module that is involved as it could be a bit of rust or corrosion somewhere that could cause this?

Check the wiper relays located with the front SAM(under the hood on drivers side)

The wiper fuse (number 56) is fine. A weird thing that happens which I noticed now is if I hold down the stalk to activate the washer when the car is off and at the same time turn on the ignition the washer sprays for about 2 secs (after turning the key) then stops, the wiper doesn’t turn. If I try press it again or activate the wipers it doesn’t work

Which relay is it? There doesn’t seem to be a wiper motor relay according to this

Next step if you have not already done so check wiper system nuts. If fine, wiper motor m6/1 wired direct to front SAM n10/1 remove SAM (engine compartment) to check front & rear.

Is there no wiper relay that I can check first before removing the whole SAM. It was mentioned earlier in this thread but I’m not sure which relay the the right one and can’t seem to find out anywhere.

I checked M1 and everything looks fine. There’s about 12V going to the wiper motor. Maybe there’s something wrong with the switch circuit. How does the stalk connect to the motor?

Symptoms of a failing wiper motor to me. Have you carried out any work on wiper assembly area including dismantling? It happened to me once when a mechanic after removing the wiper mechanism, had it incorrectly installed. I didn't realize but washer stopped working after that and it only worked when I had wipers in upright position! Update your profile, location? I have a spare wiper motor with me.

About a year or two ago we put in a new motor and that didn’t work either. We tested both and both worked (old and new). So we just left he old one in. A couple of months later the wipers and washer started working again, then a couple of months after working they washer and wiper stopped. In the period where it worked no work was carried out on the wiper assembly or anything in that area. (This whole time the headlight washers still worked). It could be a failing motor now but I highly doubt it as when we put a new motor before it still didn’t work.

Try testing the washers and wipers using Star, you'll be able to narrow down the problem (if you haven't tried that already).

I do have a new motor so I might just change it to rule out a faulty motor anyway. Also won’t the washers still work even if the motor is faulty? I’ll try and get it diagnosed with Star as well.

You said you confirmed the switch was working, but I remember having this same issue and replacing the stalk/switch. One of the wires inside were fried, blue or white don’t remeber. When I removed the stalk from the steering column I saw through an opening the fried wiring inside the stalk/switch

I could try that. I have a feeling it’s something to do with the connection between the stalk and wipers. Is there any circuit diagram of how the stalk connects to the wipers anywhere? (I can’t seem to find one)

Solved

At first glance the connector which connects to the wiper motor looks fine but if you look closer you can see a bit of green (copper corrosion) and if you open the flap there is corrosion inside (not a lot though). Once I cleaned that up the wipers and washers are (finally) working as normal.
