2006 E500 4matic
Wink Converting a E500 4matic to steel suspension

I have a 2006 E500 4matic with airmatic and I'm tired of wasting money on the air suspension . Has anyone converted to regular steel suspension on one of these with out the $1,700 kit?
i was a MB tech from 2001 until 2014 and i believe that the front coilovers from a E350 will fit right in only issue is 6 cylinder springs might lower the front a little bit which won't be a deal breaker. The rear i can either go with the $200 conversion kit or change the spring perch / lower control arm to non airmatic ones and use factory springs? or voght springs all around I don't recall ever seeing a 500 4matic without airmatic. Version code airmatic out and hope for the best... thanks

Mercedes
You are overthinking this. Run the spring table manually in EPC and you'll be in good shape to select a suitable spring.

Unfortunately I don’t have access to epc anymore. I left Mercedes-Benz about 6 years ago. The problem I’m running into is the e500 4matic only came through the factory with airmatic. Is there something I don’t know?

You can get a subscription to an online EPC. I think it's around $75 a year.

Or buy the knock off DVD on eBay for around $10. Be careful of which one you get though, sometimes they have malware. But then you'd have WIS and EPC. Got a copy a while ago, but I just poke around with it and can barely use it for my own purposes.

The structure of 4matic airmatic rear suspension is same as RWD E350/320/300.

Yes it is the only difference is the rear lower control arms are different from the airmatic vs steel springs.

I bought one of those and it almost bricked my computer due to some issue with the remote desktop interface. My housemate is much more computer savvy than I am and it took him about 3 hours to get it working again. I was ready to just reinstall Windows and call it a day.

Personally, I'd avoid the Ebay ones.

It must just be the luck of the draw then. The one I got was fine.

I had very bad experience with download version from ebay 3 weeks ago. Took me 3 hours to get my pc back to normal. The seller refunded money.

Now I’m worry, I just purchased DVD version and should be coming next week. I may need to install on pc that has nothing other than OS only. Just in case i need to re-image the pc back.

The one I used wasn't a download version. They sent me a bunch of burned CDs. I still have them and have been thinking about trying to install them again on the garage computer. It's an old POS that has nothing of importance on it so a fresh Windows install on it is no big deal.

Just completed the installation of WIS ASRA & EPC.

It took about 30 minutes to copy 30G of data file from 4 DVD to laptop hard drive prior the installation.

The installation took another 40 minutes on my old Dell laptop D620 (Win7) and everything is working so far.
