2000 E320 Wagon
Worn shocks common?

Working on a friend's 04 e320 V6 RWD 100k miles. Non airmatic suspension so just standard shocks.

My past experience on shock replacement was mixed at 100k miles (Volvo V70 long wheel base FWD wagon front strut replacement made car drive like new! VW MK4 Golf short wheel base no so much gain) This e320 doesn't exhibit any poor handling but I wonder if the longer wheelbase + heavier car might get the same good results I had with the Volvo.

Looking around on forum doesn't show shocks on this car as particularly problematic.

Also on shock replacements, do front spring seat or spring seat retainer go bad? Same question for rear spring seat? European car manufacturers love to combine rubber with metal on these seats which often cracks.

Trust me, it does go bad. There will be a noticeable difference in the ride after replacing it.
