2003 E320 continuous windshield wipers not working

2003 E320 continuous windshield wipers not working
So the windshield wipers on my car only works when I push in the button for them to wipe and spray windshield fluid. If I move the stick to make them wipe continuously nothing happens So whenever it rains I have to constantly manually push the button to make it wipe twice. I've already ran out of wiper fluid doing this. Any clue as to what is the problem?

does any other features work on that side of the stalk?

Yes literally everything works on it except placing the wipers to wipe continuously. I have to manually do it by pressing it inward which is normally reserved for spraying the wiper fluid.

have you checked the fuse and relays? going back to the basics.
