TRUNK LID ONLY OPENS WITH KEY
Yesterday a "Third Brake Lamp Defect" message showed on the instrument panel of my 2008 E320 BlueTec. It may be a total coincidence but now my trunk lid can not be opened w/ the switch in the drivers door or by hand at the lid itself. In other words I can only open the trunk lid with the metal key in the ignition key. I figured that one of the bulbs (led's?) might have burned out so I started removing the inner trunk lining. I am currently pretty far away from home so I don't have any tools and with the lining half removed I still could not get to the "Third or Center Brake Light". Or should I try removing the light from the outside? There are no screws visible though.
Can anyone tell me if there is a correlation between the Center Brake Light and the Trunk Lid mechanism?
Any suggestions and/or advice about this issue is most welcome.

Many thanks for your response Konigstiger. I am back home now and will start the repairs tonight. Hopefully i will be able to locate the broken wires.
