Emergency Key for fob
Just purchased a new fob from the dealer as my second spare would not operate ignition, only open and close doors.
When I ordered it, was asked if I had the old emergency key to move it to the new fob. Answered yes.
New fob arrives, it is the chrome version, not the black version which I have.
No problem, chrome looks way better than my beat up black one.
Got into the car, pulled out the old emergency key from my old black fob and tried to insert into new chrome fob. No go.
Went back in to the counter, dealer said black fob is no longer available, and new emergency key would cost another $100.
I said you should have called me to let me know that it is no longer available and that I needed a new emergency key and total cost at the time of order.
Then at least I could have decided if I wanted to proceed with the order.
They said sorry, I walked away pissed.
Anyone know where I can get a blank key that fits the chrome fob, then I will get a local locksmith hopefully to sidemill the current shape into the key.
Been contacting some local locksmiths about sidemilling the shape, but no luck with the blank key.

I went through the same thing about six months ago. Ended up ordering the “blade” through the dealer. I did not realize the blade is different sizes.

Just order the key blank on eBay, there's lots of them. Search for Mercedes key blank e350

Sounds like price gouging.
Last time I bought chrome key, over 3 years ago the total cost was $162 and the blade was listed separately for 20-some bucks.
My idea for emergency key is tape the blade outside the car for emergency access and than hide the knob inside the car, so the problem would not exist for me.

You can save the old remote. Buy an used key on ebay and transplant some parts. It requires unsoldering and soldering but not difficult. Worst case is transplanting the transponder IC but it's also doable. Or you can hire someone.
