Steering wheel gear shift buttons

Hi all, my recently acquired E350 has the sport pack, which amongst other things gives it a steering wheel with the gear shift buttons on either side of the rear of the wheel.
Now in my E55, the buttons work as such, lefthand one downshifts, and the right hand upshifts.
Here was I thinking that the buttons were not working in the E350........only to eventually discover that each side does the up and downshifts. Pressing the button at the edge closest to the dash gives me downshifts, and pressing closer to me gives me upshifts.
I wish I had known that beforehand, but luckily I managed to work it out, purely by chance.
Am going to have to try and get an English version of the Owners manual. As the one in my car is all in Japanese!
Graeme
