Level Sensor Programing

Hey guys, need some advice.

Long story short - I’ve to replace an air strut (front drivers side) and the air compressor. The mechanic is now saying he needs to reprogram the sensors because of the compressor replacement. Is this BS? He’s an indy guy that I’ve trusted based on a referral, but I can’t find anything to support what he is saying. Am I getting taken for a ride here?

The level sensors have no adjustments. They're static pieces.

Is there any sort of programming that needs to be done after changing the compressor or strut?

After replacing the level sensors you need to recalibrate the suspension with STAR; replacing the air springs you might have to recalibrate the suspension with STAR. The compressor will not require that but it may be the Indy got his explanation mixed up.

Go to Advanced Search, look for W211 suspension calibration, look under my user name in the W211 AMG subforum. I have two or three posts on how to do this but you may have to search as a couple of them are buried deep in the STAR DIY thread. You'll need an hour of your time, an absolutely level surface (it's in my posts on wheel alignment so look under key words alignment and my user name), an inclinometer app on your cell phone, and maybe a yardstick if you just want that for piece of mind. Don't fret over a difference of a quarter inch side to side; the airmatic will go as much as 10mm out of calculated before the airmatic computer kicks in and starts adding/subtracting air from an air spring.

Start on page 41 of the STAR DIY to find my first post on this; elsewhere I explain how to ensure you have a level surface (probably in one of my posts about aligning my car using strings). It isn't hard and it isn't rocket science. You just have to prepare properly and think it through.

Hey guys, back to this thread - the mechanic is telling me now that it's all replaced, he is getting these codes and is waiting to see what they mean exactly from Mercedes - anyone know what they are related to? He is saying it is now the front passenger side that has issues (Replaced front drivers side strut and the compressor:

Code: 5233 / 5703 / 5500

He said they are hard codes and he can't clear them.

5233 = Check component Y52y2 (Right front solenoid valve 2) in assembly Y52 (right front axle damping valve unit).
5500 = Critical vehicle level at front axle

Based on key code 5233 right side strut needs replacement, internal valve is malfunctioning.

Thanks for the info. Is the 5703 code also related?

Alright, so both struts changed and compressor now getting the 5303 (with critical level) only (y36/6 airmatic central reservoir charge valve: ground cable short circuit to GND. Can anyone help with that?

Thanks konigstiger - the mechanic checked the wires and tested the current and there is power going to them - also checked power to the compressor, and jumped it and it is good as well. He took the block off and he said that when he blew air, there was alot of debris. He also blew some air in to the block valve and said it seems to be blocked. Could this throw that same code? If the block is "burned" out or is not functioning, would this cause it? Any source for a valve block online (I've seen some on ebay - is that the best place?), would this fix this issue?

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the information - I would be at a complete loss without your help and this forum!

Hey guys,
Part installed and car lifts, but not fully. The pump turns on and is higher but the too low message still appears - any suggestions?
