glow plug controller

Mine didn't have an intake. Are you sure you're comparing the correct component? An air intake sounds more like a turbo pressure sensor.
My glow plug control unit was a matchbox sized electrical box under the intake manifold with a single plug and held in by two screws. It should have been a breeze to replace but the screws were incredibly hard to reach with my fingers.

Intake?
Main power line in (heavy gauge, goes in the round hole)
individual glow plug wires out (smaller, 6 of them, and maybe a data line or two, plugs into the oval hole).
What intake are you referring to?

the circle thing on the original one looks like it is for a thermostat or something with the air, and the new one does not have that even though I ordered the recomended model on autodoc

Did you try it?
MB constantly changes the designs and I run into EPC that for some sensors was listing up to 8 updates.
Than I run into couple of parts on my cars, that even google could not find. One of them was O2 sensor, so not unique part.
But EPC when you enter VIN will always show the latest part for your car and I would not buy such part from a seller who doesn't compare it to my VIN.
