Yeah that's a great looking interior, no SBC and well past the balance shaft issue. Also prefer that CLK steering wheel. The California market 08 will likely have the SULEV fuel tank which is not covered under the warranty extension. It is a sealed unit. When the fuel pump falls the whole tank must be replaced as designed. That's the only downside I see. I would take that E350 over the salvaged E500.

Get the vin. I don't think that's a designo interior, just a real leather interior instead of mb-tex. Doesn't look like P2, but I can't get a good look at the shifter, but it looks like an MB star instead of the silver button for the start/stop. At least it has the pano. Ask him why it says black leather interior when it's beige.

The designo editions had 4 zone climate control. Have pretty much never seen a car for sale that had that package.

The Pzev warranty is just 15 years/150k. If that were a Pzev, the fuel tank would still be covered. Non Pzev was 15 years unlimited miles.

Based on the description and pictures, looks like the car has AMG, P1 and P2 packages as stated on the internet:

2008 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Packages & Options E350 Sedan:

- AMG Sport Package $2,000 Alloy wheels: 18"x; AMG Front Airdam; AMG Rear Bumper with Dual Chrome Exhaust; Transmission: with paddle shifters; Luxury trim: alloy & leather on shifter

- P01 P1 Package $2,410 Navigation system with full map and voice; Audio system with AM/FM/satellite radio; Rear electric blind; Front driver seat and Front passenger seat: heated.

- P02 P2 Package $4,320 Bi-Xenon headlights; Cornering lights/curb illumination; Headlight control and active headlights; High pressure headlight cleaners; Smart card/smart key; includes central locking ; includes ignition starter; Card key power locks; Includes: [P01] P1 Package

Based on the pictures, the car has the headlight cleaners, so can one assume it therefore does have the P2 package?

The sports package had the headlamp washers so you can't just go by headlamp washers. It was a no cost option at one point. The only other way to tell is from the stickers under the hood warning of high voltage and the buttons on the door handle. As I said earlier, couldn't get a good look at the shifter but it looked like a star instead of the silver button which means it didn't have keyless go. There wasn't a good picture of the door handles so couldn't tell if it had keyless go. The P1 package was pretty common, pretty hard to find a car that doesn't have it. Based on the pictures and the lack of description about keyless go, I'd say it didn't have the P2 package which was why I said to get the vin, you'd just use the vin decoder and that would tell you if it had keyless go and the bixenons.

Doubt it. Was in contact with the seller last night and just reached out to him again this morning, no reply just yet.

2005 E500 4Matic wagon

Came across this 500E. I always liked the wagon, 4Matic may be cool to head up to the Sierra Nevada's/Lake Tahoe in the winter months.
I checked this vehicles carfax and it has been maintained as you would not believe it. ALL services were always done at the local MB Dealer while under warranty, after that at the local reputable Mercedes Indy Repair shop.
Car lived in Seaside, near Monterey CA all its life, a very wealthy area so one would only hope that the original owner took good care of it.
I see that the transmission was regularly serviced as well as the transfer case.
I decoded the VIN and it has keyless go as well as dynamic seats, cooling seats as well.
The engine number is NOT part of the affected balance shaft issues on the M273 engine according to my internet research.

So, the car has been maintained and appears to be super clean, I guess my only concern is the close to 150k miles on the odometer.

What are your thoughts? Does a well maintained E500 have many more miles left?
Is the 4Matic system something I need to be concerned about?

Thanks very much in advance. As always, I welcome your input.

Close. The M273 was the 5.5 liter engine and was in 2007+, not sure if it made it to the wagon that year. The 2005 had the M113 engine which didn't have balance shaft problems in the M272 or the other issue with the M273.

I believe on the wagon they had airmatic on the rears. Not sure if you have records of those being done, if not, I would think that it would be pretty soon considering the mileage. Otherwise as for how much longer it will last, that's one of those mystery things. At that price it just takes a couple of problems with the 4matic or transmission which could cost thousands to make it not worth keeping anymore. It can happen but it's not one of those common things, seemed to be more common in the early 2003-2006 models than the later face lifted, but I think they all have their share of occasional problems.

The 4matic system is fairly robust, I wouldn't worry about it too much other than regular maintainance like axles, front diff oil, transfer case oil etc. Fuel economy is going to suck with an AWD V8 but I doubt that's a major issue for you.
All E500 wagons sold in the US have 4 matic and airmatic at all 4 wheels. Front struts from Arnott are $630 each, rear airbags $400 each and rear shocks are $300 each. I would at least ask to see receips for suspension work. If the suspension sags over night budget in for that work.
The m113 V8 and 722.6 are damn near bullet proof. I went looking for an E500 wagon but soon realized a RWD E320 wagon with coil springs up front looks just as good while being far cheaper to own in the long run. I have some old w140 wheels with snow tires and chains for Tahoe.

Thanks Guys.
So if I read correctly, you would not tell me to stay away from this vehicle, but to budget for possible suspension issues (which I would have to do on my S550 as well).

And yes, you are correct, the fuel economy is not an issue for me, I do like the power.

You guys think the vehicle looks good for the miles and price?

Beautiful looking wagon tjts1!!!!

At that price and mileage I probably would've bought it myself if I didn't already have the E320. I don't see anything here to scare me away. The mileage really isn't that high for the 113/722.6. Worst case scenario you might have to do a conductor plate or valve cover gaskets or breater hoses. This is a very DIY friendly engine and transmission.
When I was shopping most of the ones I saw were on their 3rd owner and beat to hell with collapsed air suspension and terrible interior. This one seems like a clean example, I would at least go check it out. There arent a lot of these wagons out there's. The E55 AMG wagon has a cult following but most of those people don't even realize E500 wagon exists. Good luck

Is yours an E320 or E500?
When did you purchase, and how many miles do you have on it now?

Sorry for the delay ...05 E500 wagon. Got get in Sept '15, and currently have 157K on the dial. In 'summer of '16 for the fuel tank done, and next week I'll be calling dealer about the SBC unit getting completed.
As I stated before the hardest part was getting over that loss of brake pwr, but I've never had an issue with it. Now you'll see the airmatic lowered when it hasn't on the road for a couple of days (when starting) upon opening driver (or passenger) will engage the system and air will "hiss" into tank and magical raise up to standard setting. The ride a is smooth, and definitely has some kick, punch or get up in her left! Pulls straight, but I bit understeer! In conclusion get the wagon!

According to many other threads on here, you should get that leak fixed. I believe what happens is that eventually the pump burns out because it's not designed to run all the time like that.

Thanks for everyone's input. I however decided to keep my S, as I have too much money invested in it and know what I have. No need to get another car and start all over again, fixing and addressing all the little things to bring it back to what it should be.

Well... some of us think there is no such thing like too many Mercedes Benz.
We don't commute anymore and the lift was retirement gift to myself.

Well, some of us may think that after the divorce lawyer has been paid, there is not enough money left to even keep the ONE Mercedes. ;-)

That's probably why it's better to be a divorce lawyer than to get a divorce.

Its been like that since I've had it...I had my indy check it out (PPI) and nothing was wrong no leaks, runs or drops whatsoever
but I'll have the dealer check it when I get the SBC unit done. Appreciate it

I would search the old threads. I think it's just a fitting that's leaking. Sometimes all you have to do is tighten it up, but I think normally they just replace the fitting. Or it could be one of the lines or springs have a very slow leak. It's not supposed to settle at all even after a few days. The fact that yours does means that there's a leak, just a very small one that's hard to find.
