Help 08 E350

I have a leaking fuel tank/pump assembly, drivers side, called parts at the local dealership and they ran the vin. Turns out they(Mercedes) don’t have a replacement for the fuel pump, computer calls for whole fuel tank replacement at $2200 parts only😳. He did give me a “pzev emissions USA 917” code. I found the replacement part online with that code and my make and model. Anyone familiar with this issue?!

What state are you in and what's the mileage? If your car is a Pzev, should be covered under the Pzev warranty. That's 15 years/150k. Unless bought it in a non Pzev state, then it's different....

Non pzev cars had the fuel tank covered for 15 year, no mileage limit.

I live in California, bought it used last February, just over 100k. I talked to MB North America and they ran the vin with no warranty coming up. Not sure where it was originally sold though.

Complete free fuel tank replacement is covered under 15 year/150,000 mile "emission warranty".

You should be able to figure it out from the autocheck/carfax report. They're cheap, about $5 on eBay for both reports. If the car was sold in a Pzev state as mentioned in the bottom of the page above, then you should have a 15 year/150k warranty. CA is a Pzev state so you have a good chance it is. Otherwise if it wasn't, then you just had a 2 year warranty and it's expired...

Show the dealership the PZEV warranty, the service managers/shop estimator will be able to pull it up. If they refused call MB of USA. You should be able for the warranty as long as your under 150k miles.

Contact MBUSA by email. Give them your vin number, your PZEV build option, your state of residency and a copy of your 15 year 150k mile warranty info and a pic of your odometer. Ask them exactly on what date does your 15/150k PZEV warranty expire. Use email to create a paper trail. It'll force them to be a lot more careful with their words. If they continue to deny your warranty, tell them you are going to contact the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (look it up). That'll help them focus in helping you rather than obstructing. PM me if you have any more questions. I just went through this BS with my leaking non PZEV fuel tank.

Good luck

I seriously doubt you need to replace the entire fuel tank. The driver's side is the fuel filter, which is separate from the fuel pump on the passenger's side. The driver's side filter OEM currently goes for $179.89 on RockAuto. Buy it, and call around to a couple of indy shops asking for a quote right over the telephone. It should only cost $200 labor.

Notice how in your link every one of the parts say "w/o PZEV" or "not for partial zero emissions vehicle". There's a reason for that.

I can attest to the warranty - At a dealership in San Diego they replaced the entire fuel tank and components (fuel pump and everything indie) without charging me a dime on my '08.

Thank you for your cryptic response. Looks like those parts won't work for you.
