2007 E550 check engine light and higher temperature

I have had my new-to-me E550 for about 2 months now and it has been pretty great so far. Today driving to work the check engine light came on and I noticed the temp gauge was at 80C, where normally it is right in-between 40C and 80C. I kept driving to work and the temp gauge never exceeded the 80C mark.

Milage is ~90k. My first thoughts are a thermostat problem maybe? I am going to get a code reader from harbor freight after work today to see if I can grab the code, but just curious if there is any frequent issue that present themselves this way.

Thanks!

PS I restarted the car and the light was still there, also undid and redid the gas cap and it was still there. Also my vin says my engine serial number is outside of the scope of the balance shaft gear problem.

Just got the codes pulled at autozone, P0015 and P0128 which seems like a "continuous camshaft adjustment incorrect position of the exhaust camshaft" and "Thermostat value stuck in open position"?

Took it to a shop. Having them replace the thermostat and the 4 camshaft sensors/magnets.
