Replacing IPod Interface kit.

Hi, I have a 2007 MB E350. It has the IPod interface kit. Is there a simple way to eliminate this kit and go straight to a Bluetooth option? I know I can get an item like Bovee. But the end cable with the iPod connection is damaged. It does not charge the iPod I use, so probably not Bovee product either. But it still works and plays music. Any ideas? I know this technology is old. But I love my 2007 Mercedes. Thanks.

Stick with the ipod. The problem with bluetooth is that it skips once a while. I have it in my W212 and I just put up with it. At least with the ipod, you can control the music with the steering wheel controls. Not sure if you can do that with an adapter. You need a power adapter to make the charging work on the ipod. I just use a 4th gen ipod touch with spotify and sync via wifi once in a while. Plus less fiddling around with your music, I just leave it in the glove box and it starts to play when I get in the car. In the W212, I always have to pair it, start up spotify and pick the playlist. The of course it shuts off when you get a phone call and you have to restart it. At least with the ipod, once you're done with a call, the music picks right back up.

The cable which connects to the iPod is easily replaceable, and I had to do this at some point (when the iPhone 5 came out? I forget) because the newer phone wouldn't charge. The fix was a different cable, it has the apple dock connector on one end, and a RJ-style jack (like a phone or network cable jack) on the other. The way my iPod kit was installed, I needed to remove the passenger footwell cover (above a front passenger's feet, like 3 or 4 screws), and then the device was visible. The cable runs from the device up and through a hole in the side of the glove compartment. Easy to replace.

Solution

Thanks to everyone with all the advice. My solution was I went and I brought the Bovee 1000 from
Amazon. Plugged it in and it works. I am
not sure why the 30pin ipod cable would not charge the iPod I have. But it is charging the Bovee bluetooth adapter. The sound quality is very good. So I am satisfied.
