Cool LED tail lights

Hi Folks

I know with certain packages, one gets the LED tail lights. I for one did not get any options that had those lights.

So, a question to everyone in the W211 world, other than the 'COOL' factor having the LED tail lights, are there any other advantage?

I can understand the front BiXenon's but have not found any reason to spend the extra $$$ for the LED tail lights. IMHO, I think the non LED looks equally classy.

Any suggestions here????

Thanks in advance

REDLANDS40, in terms of getting these LED tail lights, see the thread listed below

https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211/73825-just-upgraded-led-taillights-amg-exhaust.html

Based upon the 2 comments, I gather that LED is brighter and last longer then traditional bulbs (also for safety reason). These are the only advantage of LEDs over standard tail lights. Please chime in if there are more advantages

TIA

LEDs light up a fraction of a second quicker than normal incandescent bulbs. I remember when the W220 came out Mercedes was touting that it would give drivers behind you X feet more stopping distance at 60mph

Many cars have LEDs in their center-mount stoplamp but not in the main stoplamps, and you can notice that the center lamp lights up faster.

They are brighter, last longer, and use less energy.

Did I read somewhere that they are also lighter in weight?

I would think the weight of a light bulb and/or the weight of a cluster of diodes is negligible. Certainly not something that would affect the performance. Maybe the housing is what you are reffering to.

That's probably it. Since they generate negligible heat, you might save some weight if the housing was designed for LED from the bottom up.

Thanks to all for your input.

So, the question here is that

1) to have quicker and brighter tail lights,

2) to have lower heat generating and longer lifespan fittings

3) to potentially lighter (by a few OZ) light fixture

4) to look 'cooler' ... a maybe

are all these worth an estimated $200.00 ???

Decisions, decisions .... time to think about this .....

Thanks again

If it's only $200, go for it. It's newer looking and that might help on resale. Can help just when talking about cars with friends and stuff. I know to retrofit LED tail lights on a BMW costs a hell of a lot more than $200.

For $200 definitely a must do. I don't like how the halogen and LED center brake lights don't come on and off at the same time. I think it looks so much cleaner with the LED's all around.
