Both never gonna be missed in 1 model year. You got em? Enjoy em. Those who don't, won't miss them. In no way do items like these affect the performance or value of the car. If you look at the glove compartment door, there are 2 clips that look like they were a snap in holder for a pen or a tire guage or something that's no longer supplied. Did its absence diminish the pleasure of getting your new car? Of course not!Ash tray mat? Come on! The shelf in the glove box? Now where are we gonna keep the second half of our encyclopedias labled m thru z? Due to the dollar valuation against their currency something's gotta give. How much ya wanna pay for the car before it becomes unaffordable? They have to bring the car in at a "certain given " price for it to compete successfully in the market. They can't just say "we are the best & this is our price, take it or leave it".

Same thing with gasoline. You want to keep the price the same & reduce the unit of measurement from gallons to quarts, then to pints, then to cups? The price on the pump will then always be the same, you'll just get less...or the price has to go up to keep the same size "portion". (Let's for the moment remove oil company/distributor/station price gouging & profiteering out of the equation).

Its STILL a BENZ. The benchmark of quailty & status thruought the WORLD.

In today's global economy SOMETHING has got to give.

I didn't have a tray in mine, either. I got ripped! That's it, I'm bringing my car back for a refund.

Where's the distronic?

I just picked up the new 2005 E-class brochure. Distronic is only available on the E55. Is anyone going to miss it? I have an E55 on order, but I didn't get distronic. Seems like an oxymoron.

Curious, for the benefit of those who don’t have and want what is the cost from parts for: (1) rear armrest with pull down strap, (2) glove box tray, and (3) rubber mat to ashtray storage compartment?

Correct! Something has to give. Bad that this something is always the customer...

When I got my E in January and found that ash tray mat (I even didn't know about this before) I went like "wow - this is that kind of detail that comes with such an expensive car... cool!"

The benchmark of quailty & status thruought the WORLD...

I spend my money not just because its says MERCEDES! I simply expect a certain quality that is way above standard when spending $70k on a car. And I also expect these hidden details because THAT is what makes the car special.

In today's global economy... DaimlerChrysler may be the one losing... not just money!

Also apparently missing, according to the new brochure, is the neat storage compartment behind the second row seating in the wagon. I suspect there's more decontenting to be found.

I may be the only one, but I think that climate control system is an improvement over the previous one. It's much easier and faster to change the temp (twisting a dial takes a split second, pressing the button up/down to the desired temp takes a few seconds longer).
Also, the fan speed readout is a lot better in my eyes and easily determinable with a quicker glance than the old one req'd (I think the mode selector/display is pretty much the same)
Sure you lose the trick looking digital readouts, but this seems like it's a major ergonomic (is that the right word?) improvement over the old system. Just my opinion.

Oh yeah, what's this rest function you all are up in arms about because it's missing?

It circulates warmed air in a parked car for 30 min. in winter; removes hot air from the cabin in summer. A great Florida feature when runnning errands, making sale calls, etc.

There you have it. So for argument sake you have the dealer reimburse you for the cost of ordering the armrest with pull strap, the ashtray mat, and the glove box tray from parts as a stipulation in the sale. What’s the big deal? …Far be it from me to throw some coals on the fire.

Hell, how often do you change temps? I set my temp 6 months ago and since then the 4 zone is doing its job 100%.

I never understood why there is a fan speed readout in automatic mode at all? Either I like what the automatic is doing - then I don't wann know about the fan speed - or I don't like it and switch to manual (which I never did).
