Additional decontenting for 2005
I have the brochure for 2005, and posted is a picture of the revised climate control console. Here we see the previously announced elimination of the center vent. We also see that they have eliminated the Rest function, and also the center thumbwheel thingy.

There is no more 4-zone on the e320.
And forget the vent, the cold/hot adjustment is gone!!!
That is enough to cause me to cancel my order.

why does mercedes need to do this, for a $300 cheaper MSRP? or to eliminate unecessary features?? Part of owning a Mercedes is having all those buttons and wheels that you have no idea what their function is lol
PS-what are the buttons on the revised climate control that say "mode-" and mode+" ?? thanks

It's MB USA's call
I think it's important to realize it is the genious marketing guys at MB USA calling these shots.
In Canada, MB Canada had fitted all E-class including the 2003 E320 with 4-zone as standard equipment.
Different option and standard equipment for different markets complain to your local MB head office!

Even though I didn't include the picture, there is another picture of the 4 zone, which I did not post. I don't have a scanner, so I was taking them with a camera. On the 4-zone, the charcoal filter button has been replaced with the AC button (looks like they changed the logic here, which makes more sense, instead of having a AC Off button). The button for the AC Off is now blank. On the standard climate system, the mode button is the equivalent of the air flow direction buttons. Looking in the detailed option list, I did not see the Rest mentioned, but I need to compare the verbiage. The 2005 brochure is from I don't know when, but I believe it is brand new.
In another thread about the cupholders, I also mentioned that there is a disclaimer that the design of the center console is subject to change during the 2005 model year.

the 4 zone on the 320 is a must-order option now

Is your brochure specific to the CDI or the entire E Class?
By the way, what was the function of the large, center dash vent - a return or output?

This brochure was the entire product line. I have a feeling that the brochures that most people have are the 2004.5 brochures that included the CDI information.
The center vent was apparently an output, which when used in conjunction with the Blue thumbwheel in the middle, would dispel cool air in the winter to reduce driver fatigue.
Yeah.. I have felt anything come out of mine.. In the winter for fatigue, now that is cool..
Can anyone confirm that they felt this come on in the winter?!
I have had my E500 since Feb and didn't notice as it has been warm here (Toronto) since..

Nope, I don’t like the new look, IMO very cheap - at least how it is depicted in this picture. I’ll have to check it out close up and personal as it relates to the total cabin. I never used the center thumb wheel air flow thing here in the metro Phoenix area so there’s no great loss there. The rest function did help a bit on a quick shopping run sorry to see it go but not a show stopper. And, as another member already questioned, why did they eliminate the center speaker?

are you sure this is a "US" 05 brochure? (or 05 MB taxi brochure) climate control looks like a cab (w211) I took in Copenhagen. (you can find a ton of w211 cabs there -- outside looks exact same as my car but inside looks very cheap. I took a w210 cab in Singapore few years ago -- no leather at all. but I was excited to take mb cabs and could not help comparing differences between cars.)
My dealer has an 05 CDI brochure and the 04 E Series brochure, sans CDI. When did this 2004.5 E Series brochure, including the 05 CDI, become available? Would like to get my hands on one. Thanks.
Try not to think of "decontenting" the car as "stripping" it. Think of it as removing all of the buggy, infrequently used, will not be missed after 1 model year, overtaxing the design/repair cababilities of the engineereing/repair staff, greatly annoying when they act erratically, hurting the reputation of the brand, items.
