sorry about your car man, but i dont think a camera will really help you unless you can personally think of someone who would want to do something like that to your car. i would get a really nice security system, something like the Compustar long range remote, and get all the goodies, so if you are within a 1 mile or whatever, your remotw will tell you. GL with whatever you do.

To watch your car, the camera would have to be OFF your car, aimed AT it. It couldn't watch the car & be on/in it.

Put an actual digital vid camera on the dash although you will get people smashing your windows to get at it and you will only have the length of the tape..

Maybe all the decontenting that's going on is to make way for an optional gun turret. (can only order in combination with the Pano roof).

Sorry to hear about you're car. I would be fairly deeply depressed if that happened to me.

One of my boys in the import industry always had that happenin to his ride as he changed the colors of his car often. So everytime he would have to get a whole new paint job, it pissed him off. These hooligans were really hurtin his soopt up M3. So he went to Queens NY, Queens BLVD, and they installed a camera in his side mirrors, trunk key hole, and his front grill to get a complete peripheral view of his car. The camera can't watch the car but can watch who comes near it or hits it or whatever. The camera is very minute where you can barely see it and it recorded into his car, where the navigation was.

I'll get in touch with him and find out what it exactly is and let you know in further details..

Good luck.

another possibility: my friend has a 2003 with an auto start alarm. It’s a newer version that transmits a signal to his key ring when his alarm is going off. It’s a real sensitive alarm so that any bump will set it off. I know that the auto start will not work for you because of the year and I don’t know if you would want to change the alarm system. I do know that they are very good products and work well. I don’t know if they make different systems with different options, I just haven’t done the research. With this, you may still not catch anyone fuken with your car but you would at least know that your alarm is going off for some reason.

Very sorry to hear about your car.

Have you checked with the mall's security department? Today, malls have cameras everywhere. Did you file a complaint with your sheriff/police department. They may have a quicker entree to mall security. Vandalism in Florida is usually a claim made under your comprehensive policy provisions. In most cases, a deductible does not apply.

CAREFULLY choose your body shop to protect your car's re-sale value (although your insurance will likely report the damage to th Carfax database). Where are you in Florida?

As a veteran of having two convertible tops slashed (while in valet no less) I sympathize!

Dont you have to file a report for them to cover it with no deductible? otherwise you pay i think. I like seeing you tampa people. Just curious, what part of Tampa are you in? I spent 14 years living in the town n country area and then moved away to go to school.

Take your beater to the mall next time. I hardly park my car in parking structures anymore.

I did file a a police report and filed a claim with my insurance....

Both me and the cop checked but they were no surveillance cameras for the mall parking lot...

I dropped the car off at the dealership....

Thanks for making me laugh guys....the gun turret would be a nice option...sometimes you have to keep these things in perspective....at least I didnt crash my car....

I still would like to know though...now I'm looking around me wherever I go...trying to see who is watching me...

There is no point in losing sleep or watching your back constantly. Dont let some *** take control of your life. maybe you pissed someone off or someone does not like you for whatever reason. Normally people dont go around keying others for no reason. just make correct judgement when parking in obscure places.

I'm sure you already know, but make sure they'll remove trim, door handles, etc., and not mask these parts. What dealer is going to do the work?

The person/s that did this to your car are in for some lousy karma.

Now that cameras are so small why can't you have one that can be placed on a small elevated removable platform on the arm rest or hangs from the dome light area that will rotate 360 dgrs and record up to one hour or so. I think the spy shops may have something for your application.

Even w/ a camera, how would you ID the

little *******s, unless you knew them and they had a grudge against you, be it real or imagined? All you might end up with is pics of unknown *******s..... Quite possibly it was done by jealous little boys who are destined to remain at the lower rungs of society, hence their actions.

You might not recognize them from any pics, but the police or the mall security just might.

putting cameras on inside is easy but taping the outside would be a task. Rear and front would be doable with a wide angle lens but not sure what to do about the sides.

The thing I wonder. if you have C code paint with the clear coat. Do they apply this again on the new paint if it is done by Mercedes?

The fact of the matter is nothing usually happens to these people. They are disgusting, seeking to hurt someone who they do not even know, and will not be around to see the horror on their faces, which doesn't even begin to explain why they do such things. The only reason I can come up with is that they themselves don't own anything worth a damn, so cutting your pleasure short makes their choice of not having anything seem right. (And it IS a choice they are making, since a normal person seeing something nice will aspire to get as close as they can to acheiving a similar lofty goal.)

We tell ourselves "They will get theirs..." but there is no scorekeeper in the universe who will visit them with revenge to "even the score". They are simply lowlifes of this world.

Make yourself feel better by knowing that if you choose your repair facility with care, and let them know you are a perfectionist and expect your car to be absolutely perfect, so they should please feel sorry for your irrational love of cars. With today's technology, and a shop owner who "feels for you" your car can be repaired to the same magnificent condition it was in when you got it. Then you can put all of this behind you, and enjoy the hell out of your car. They will still have nothing.

Extremely well stated Barry...

Really a terrible experience for the owner. I know how I would feel if such a thing happened to mine.
