How much the burning of engine-oil is acceptable?
My V8 E500 is burning oil quiet often, about every 1K miles I have to pour in 1 qt. Most of my driving is in the city and half of the time it is bumper-to-bumper driving which; not sure how much it may impact on its engine-oil performance though. The engine is not leaking, it has 60K miles, the valve-seals seems to be just fine and maintenance has usually been over performed in the car, not that this will prevent anything from happening but it hopefully should minimize surprises... so, does any one have any idea what could be happening? Is this acceptable and kind of normal for this type of vehicle with this engine-size?

Mb allows for pretty hefty oil consumption and your 1l /1000 miles might be still within specifications.
But most of owners drive even high mileage engines with no oil consumption (at least not big enough to prompt the light between changes, what is about 2l)
I am not familiar with your engine, but other member post similar story about his 320 engine and went to the dealer with warranty claim.
When dealer measured the consumption as within spec, couple years later he discover hidden leak.

High revs can cause excessive oil consumption, city driving not.
