E270 CDI Fault - anyone else experience this?
I've one of the first 2002 E270 CDI's and have had a problem with the power being limited intermittently. When driving normally, suddenly the accelerator pedal no longer has power and the car will not accelerate above 2000 rpm. I've had this problem intermittently over my 28000 miles. Turbo was replaced first, problem still occurred. Engine control unit just replaced and problem occurred twice more - on the way home from the dealer. Has anyone experienced similar problems - any suggestions? It is dangerous as you rely on the power and it cuts out at the worst times - overtaking etc..........

I had something very similar when my car was new. It turned out to be the kick-down switch under tha gas pedal sticking. An easy test for this is to use the steptronic mode on the tranny to select gears yourself without relying on the kick-down.

It happened to me twice. Both times I just switched the engine off, wiggled the switch with my hand and set off merily on my way. The first time was on the way home from the dealer whilst picking the car up new!!!. They replced the switch for me without complaint.
The syptoms I had was a distinct lack of power. Upward gear changes felt as if they went 1st 2nd 5th. Even at 15mph.

I had tried manually dropping down the gears before the engine control unit was changed out and it made no difference. The best I could get was 1600 rpm. Now that the ECU has been changed I could get 2000 rpm and tried the manual changedown, which this time worked - the rev needle jumped back to life again. So it sounds like I may have the same problem you experienced - and maybe had a dodgy ECU as well!

Nope - the Perth dealer is off the hook. It was a personal import from a dealer in Belgium, just before the Euro/ £ exchange rate took a dive. They even threw in a few liters of beer and some chocs for the missus, bless.
