Hi! My first post. Need help with brake lights warning message w211
I just bought this car yesterday and I have a few messages stating that I have brake lights out and that back up ones are on. I pulled the light clusters out and indeed the top brake lights are out on both sides. The funny thing is I ran 12v directly to the top bulbs and they both turned on. 2004 E320??
Please help Thank you!!

You can not buy just one bulb! I've read every post twice on here that has anything close to pertaining to my situation. The only thing I can try is buying the right side cluster and see if that works. I guess they run in series, so if the right goes out they both go out.

check the globe holders contact points on the fixed board connected to the tail light
common to have burnt contacts, if so and your handy with a soldering iron and wires you could mend it yourself. otherwise buy new board/ tail light
Also worth checking if the wiring plug leading to the board is burnt out.
don't quote me but from memory i do believe if one brake light is blown/faulty then both sides will run backups.
