aftermarket (xtrons) head unit fibre adapter question (and ipod interface Q)

it seems to me that the adapter lazily takes the fibre optic plug, ignores the GPS/RADIO inputs (that are carried to the comand head unit by the fibre), and reduces the multichannel signal to the amplifier into a simple two channel one.
i want to keep the HK amp, and also avoid having to run more cables since we already have a GPS antenna.
my questions are:
1. wtf is the point of this head unit's multichannel audio capabilities (it has SACD, DVD audio, DTS CD, all of which are my main motivations to upgrade) if the adapter is outputting a simple two channel signal?
- is there ANY way to use the STOCK amp with the logic 7 speakers, and this head unit, and RETAIN the multichannel signal? the head unit is definitely able to output a multi channel signal. just wondering if there's a way to send that to the AMP.
2. can i plug my iPOD interface cable (the 3 pin aux cable) into the harness and have it work? it seems they have a spot to accept this cable (second panel for ISO wiring harness, pins C4 C5 and C11).

thanks for your help.

people mistakenly assume that the comand head unit is stereo. it is not. it is a multichannel output.
i wish i could get my hands on the COMAND NTG1 software development kit.
btw ot1: do you have a cd changer? wanna run an experiment for me? really itching to see if it has WMA compatibility!
