Intermittent Shifting Problem on E500 Wagon

Just recently started having intermittent problems with shifting. Yesterday the car would not shift into Park and would not shift out of 1st gear. I could get it into Park if I tuned the vehicle off but then it would not start back up again until it sat for a while. Hooked up my icarsoft and got codes P240c, P1856, and P0705. Today the car is shifting fine. From doing some cursory research, it seems to probably be the transmission shift module. Pelican has a tech article on replacement https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart...eplacement.htm

but the problem is I can't find the part for sale anywhere. Lots of used ones on ebay but I saw something about them needing to be specifically programmed for my car using STAR. Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, how was it resolved? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If you're feeling ambitious check ESM (gear shift) for internal fault: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...al-repair.html more often than not ESM is usually plug & play make certain you match original part #. Occasionally may simply need to clear stored fault codes if problem occurs.

Thank you! This is very helpful. I'm going to start with clearing the codes and take it from there.

somebody can say if it was fixed? I'm sure you are not the only one with this issue. Also, checking the ATF level is tricky because the aftermarket lipstick at its end is flexible plastic and inside it can bend, then you can not trust hit it in the right way. simple answers can not hurt. If somebody knows the exact lipstick size for ATF can be helpful.

Hi, yes it is fixed. Sorry for not following up. ATF level was fine so I found a used gear shift module on ebay with the exact same part number. Swapped it out with no issues and it has been working great ever since.
