I recently replaced all four tires and also replaced all four TPMS stems. MY M-B service manager says the stems should be replaced each
40K miles...sounds too frequent to me.
My replacements would probably fall in the "preventive mntce." category as I was having no TPMS problems.
Do these stems ever actually fail? Just wondering.
If you are referring to valve (515 in diagram) never heard that before. Sensor (510) however, incorporates a non-replaceable internal battery of which MB recommends replacement every seven years regardless of mileage to answer your proactive maintenance question.
I sold my 2007 E320 BT last year and still on factory TPMS at 190k miles.
I am in contact with buyer and he did not replaced them yet.
But for the year the sensor would display warning only, with no psi reading on cluster, although my scanner would read not only pressure, but temperature as well.
