Jaguar rental upgrade...
Just got back from Carmel CA. The car rental company at Monterey airport offered a free upgrade to a Jaguar S-Type. Without going into detail, I will simply say no comparison to the e class - at least IMO, and leave it at that. Meaning no offense to any Jag owners here on the forum but this particular vehicle was absolutely not our cup of tea - at all.

Jag vs MB
The S class Jag is a closer match to the Lincoln LS or to a Ford Thunderbird. ...A closer match to the E500 type of build would be the Jag XJ or XJ8. I've looked because even though I just got my E5 in Dec, I wonder what would be next in 3.5-4.5 years. I wouldn't get another 211, even though I love it, because it wouldn't feel like a "new" car, and if they had changed to a next gen body, I wouldn't buy a Benz's 1st year production of a model based on recent past performance. I don't think I would pay the bucks for an S class MB & then add the options to make it loaded enough for me. Even I have a limit as to how much I would pay to own a car.
I don't think Jag as the "panache" that an E or S Class MB has. I think Jag lost a lot of its lustre in the final pre-Ford years when they were known for hardly ever running right. Then they made the mistake of introducing a "cheap" anyperson entry lavel Jag first based on the LS platform.
