2004 E320 Sport intermittent A/C fan problem

My 04 E320's AC fan works intermittently. It's fine for a short while (responds to all input controls and all fan speeds), but, after awhile the fan will only blow with position 3 force.. Won't blow any harder no matter where the fan setting is selected. Then, after awhile, the fan becomes adjustable again and it returns to normal function. BTW the A/C is serviced, properly charged, etc. I've also checked fuses, all seem fine.

Have not checked the blower motor or regulator, which seems to be a popular culprit here. Or, the control panel?

What do you think, ladies and gents?

Thanks, all

So this might be related to the Voltage Regulator issue in your other post. I believe when the car has Battery Protection mode, the AC fan is regulated to maximum of 50% blower speed. These cars need a lot of electrical power for everything to function properly. Get the VR checked out first. I think this issue with the fan will solve itself once electrical power is fully restored.

STOP with the voltage regulators already! This is a 17+ year old platform, the entire alternator should be replaced. The urban legend of replacing the voltage regulator only stems from a 15+ year old recall when the cars were NEW because MB did not want to pay for a full alternator replacement. Just let it go!
