Can someone snap a shot of non-pano rear ambient lights and buttons. I am curious to see them. I have a shot of the lights for the pano roof.

Quote: Ambient lighting system
I've got overhead ambient lights, ambient lights in the door handles and a light under the rearview mirror that lights the console. But no footwell ambient lights, front or back. MB literature and web site says it should be there. Is there a special setting to turn these footwells on, or do I have a problem?

I see that your vehicle is a 05. Indeed puzzling. One scenario might be that MB is exhausting their supply of the old control units before installing the revised unit. Just because they claim a particular production change date does not guarantee that all vehicles coming off the assembly line afterwards will have the revised part, feature, etc. as attested to so very many times here on the forum. Cost effective measure because, quite frankly, who but the members on this forum would catch them? I would pursue the retrofit, best of luck.

If you wish to reply to the ambient light matter within this thread please post your reply at https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211/83396-do-you-have-ambient-lighting-foot-wells-3.html#post893885 so that all inquiries and responses are recorded in one thread for future reference, thanks. I simply wanted to alert HotWheels500. Guess I should have used Private Mail rather than confuse the issue. Oh well, too late.

I have the 2004 E500. The bright courtesy lights (bright when you open car door) are the same ambient lights also. The light on the front driver's footwell is located under the steering wheel column, close to the brake pedal. The front passenger's footwell ambient light is under the glove compartment. If you sit at the back seats, the two rear ambients lights are both under front driver's and passenger's seats pointing towards rear passenger's foot. When the ingition is turned on, headlights are on, the four footwell courtesy lights become the ambient lights, very dim, but detectable. I laid on my back to verify the front footwell lights; the rear footwell lights, you can see them as soon as you sit in the back seats. Inside of the car must be very dark in order to see the ambient lights. I did read in another thread that the early productions of '03 models before build date of January '03 may not have ambient lights, but can be corrected at the dealer.

Thanks for remembering my concern. Turns out that I have all the ambient lighting promoted by MB. As others have said, in order to have the footwell ambient lighting working, the nignition (or engine) needs to be running. Just yesterday, I adjusted the brightness of the front ambient lighting via steering wheel control. Seems to me that, in addition to making the overhead circular ambient brighter, it also made the door handles and front footwell lights brighter as well.

So for me, all is well. See my model and build date below.

I guess there are two problems. (1) Some people just don't have some of this lighting, and probably should. (2) the owners manual is silent on the conditions under which portions of this lighting will function.

Cheers all.
