I drove to L.A. yesterday to take a look at this E55. Car looked like it was in great condition inside and out. The dealer had records of all kinds of service he did such as transmission mounts, motor mounts, valve gasket covers, supercharger belt, all 16 spark plugs. Dealer also said he would warranty all work he has done for 2 years. I checked the abc suspension and it rose and lowered properly. The car drove great as well. The only thing concerning me is that the car has been for sale for over 280 days. I have seen E55's posted and sold within a couple days so it is a turn off to me that the car has been for sale for 280 something days. I am interested in hearing from you guys as to whether you think this car is a good buy or not. I will post the link below to the carfax where you can check the car out online. Any feedback helps and is greatly appreciated.
IMO the color and the aftermarket grill are possible reasons why it isn't selling. Ugly, but that's me. Another factor is that a pandemic is swirling the globe. Alot of potential buyers are crouched under their kitchen tables until the boogey man leaves town.

If I purchase this car I am planning on switching out all the black aftermarket badges and grill to the chrome because I think it is ugly as well. The pandemic could be a reason, but there were other E55's near my area that were still selling and selling quickly. The 280 days on the market is just a yellow flag for me.
Mileage is another factor. Not alot of people are looking to buy a 110k mile vehicle of any description, let alone a 16 year old Mercedes with an ugly grill during a global pandemic.
Without seeing the vehicle in person, and if I could get over the colors, which I wouldn't, the days for sale wouldn't be an objection for me. Times are weird now.

Thanks for your input. I'm seeing cars with well over 100k miles selling. I agree the grill is uglier than **** and would be replaced immediately.
Too expensive for those miles and that year IMO. I don't get the problem with the color or the grill though.......both of those things can be 'fixed' to your liking, and plus they look fine to me

Thanks for your opinion. What do you see as a fair price for the car? I actually like the color of the car, but the black grille and badges will have to go as I think it makes the car look cheap.
I think it's overpriced by about $2k. That color is called "Platinum Blue" and personally I like it, because I have one! I didn't like it when I bought mine in 2012, but it grew on me. It also has the dark blue seat and door panel inserts. The grill is, of course, UGLY. This color blue looks best with all the OEM chrome trim on the car. It was a very popular color on the E320's of that era. It tends to change hues between blue and blue-grey-silver depending on the lighting. The panoramic roof is also a detractor. I'd be surprised if it still works. Parts to repair it are expensive and may not be available from MB any more. It's noisy, and it also allegedly weighs 80 lbs more than a standard sunroof, so the go-fast buyers don't want it. This year has the rare solar panels built in to run a ventilation fan, because the pano roof makes the interior cook like an oven in the summer. As always, before buying have a pre-purchase inspection done by an MB dealer or qualified MB indy shop. If the fuel tank recall was not done, the warranty is over on that model year and you're looking at $3k for a replacement.

I wasn't so sure of the color at first glance, but once I looked at the car in person I liked it. Yes the black aftermarket grille has to go. It's uglier than hell. Nice looking car man. Yes PPI is definitely necessary and I will look into the fuel tank scenario. The pano roof actually does work. It wouldn't be a huge problem to me if it stopped working as long as the room was closed. Thanks for your input and that's a beauty you have there.

The pano should be ok, I have it on my 08 E-350 and it's been fine. I think it breaks if used all the time, the sunshade cover breaks or the gears get jammed. It's important to have it lubed. It's nice, I normally just leave the sunshade open and glace up once in a while, but mostly just use climate control and never open it. As for the fuel tank, I believe that was an extended 15 year warranty which on an 04 would be expired by now. MB's standard is to replace the entire tank if you had fumes leaking into the cabin. You'd fill the tank and see if you smell gas in the back seat. I believe one cheaper repair instead of replacing the tank was to replace the pump/fuel filter and use rtv to seal the leak. Not the way MB would do it but much cheaper than a new tank.
