Too many options out there and parsing though it all is overwhelming. I need a tool that not only diagnosis all the systems on MB, but I also need one that can do at least basic coding and adaptations. SHould I just not waste my time go straight to Star? If so, who is a good seller and what should I be looking at when I buy? The one site I looked at had a ton of options.
I picked one up from Launch. It is an android tablet with an app on it that talks to a bluetooth dongle that plugs into the car/truck OBD port. So far I've used it on my Mercedes, Chevy, Jeep, Ford, and Toyota with great success. Yes, it will activate/deactivate/bleed the brakes on a Benz. It costs an extra few hundred bucks than a STAR system will, but so far it does all the same things AND it'll work on other brands.

Its just the whole issue about finding and buying all the hardware. And then its not exactly cheap.Its easier to just buy a package that is ready to go.

Do you know anything about the less expensive versions? Do you have to buy an annual license?

Peter advises what hardware to buy. Remotes in - does a complete install. You’re good to go.
I’ve been using the youcanic full-system scanner for a couple years on my Mercedes and it’s become my go-to because it’s easy to use, pulls codes from all the modules fast, handles most of the service stuff I need (adaptations, resets, bi-directional tests, DPF regen), and it works on other makes too with a nice topology view that helps trace issues; the flip side is it’s not a full Xentry replacement deep coding/programming and a few niche functions still need Xentry/Vediamo, and every now and then I’ll hit a task it can’t do. With that said I use it a lot on my older MB and family.
