Ec220cdi whatis it like?

I have been offered a good deal on E220CDI with avantgarde, 6cd, phone install.

I have not had a diesel before. Is this engine noisy compared to other mftr diesels? and how is the acceleration?

quite noisy cf to e320 which is smoother.

Power is OK but if u need something sporty go for 320, 270 is 5 cyls and not very smooth cf to 320 but still quieter than 220.

If u want options go for 220cdi..i have the car with sand leather, avantgarde, and parkatronic.. Its good choice...unless your a racer.

Mind me asking what your paying for it and what reg is it.....to see if its a good deal....i know dealers can rip you off.

some slow@$$diesels
I like the E220CDI...way faster then my driving license can handle...here in the Netherlands were speedtraps are to be found behind every second tree...
The engine, however, IS noisy, but so are all CDIs...

I bought E270 CDI in 2002 and was disappointed (I also never had diesel before) with the noise, vibrations and overall feeling so I changed it to E320 (no CDI

My e320 CDI is very quiet, almost as quiet as a gas engine. fuel attendents are always amazed when I say fill it with diesel

With the options you have listed the on the road price comes to

£32104.

I would seriously consider having leather for another £950. Not only will it be easy to maintain your resale value will be better. If i was buying used leather would be a MUST at this price range/Exec class car and u will be offered more come resale.

The dealer has given you 1000 quid off which is more than what some offer.

If you really have to buy new then i would negotiate another 500 quid off.
I would also consider going for used, since these cars have been out nearly 2 years and there are a number about now. But it is difficult to get low mileage examples.

A 2yr old 52plate E220Cdi Avantgarde Auto with leather with around 15-17k miles can be picked up for 26/27K from dealers or btw 24-25K privately.
Thats a saving of 6-7K privately or 4-5k with dealers. Also your car is likely to lose just 2-3k per year after 2 yrs compared to 4-5K in the 1st/2nd year.

I am considering P/X mine for a FRV in November or the New ML next year due to the requirement of a people carrier if I don't sell it b4 then.

I wonder why the 320 is quiter than the 220... i have a C220CDI and i have to agree the noise is noticable and can get annoying. Anyone know the reason??

It's probably because the I-6 cylinder arrangement of the E320CDI is an inherently balanced configuration in a 4-stroke engine, meaning that a power stroke occurs evenly each 120 degrees of crankshaft rotation (crankshafts on 4-stroke engines spin two revolutions every 4 stoke cycle.) The I-4, I-5, V-6 and V-8 cylinder configurations are all somewhat unbalanced, some more than others. V-6 engines in particular usually contain spinning balance shafts "smooth them out".

Your signature shows that you already own a 320CDI. I would recommend you take out a 220CDI (down to the dealer to get one) and simply compare between the two.

I had an ML270CDI for a week, an E270CDI for a day and then the 320CDI for a few minutes (I could have had it longer ) before committing my hard earnt money. (My wife thought she liked the ML until she actually got in it, then spent a week trying to like it)

Engine noise on the E-class has NEVER been an issue for me, and I defy anyone to come up with any figures which show the 320CDI to be noisier than its petrol equivalent above tick-over.

The 220 will obviously be slower than its bigger brothers, but I have yet to read of anyone saying that the engine has POOR performance. Go for what you want, and enjoy the ownership of such a wonderful vehicle.

Good luck with your decision,
John
