Exclamation E270CDI Problem ...... (echo, echo.......)

OK I'll admit this is getting me annoyed now.
E270CDI (2002) has been at the dealer twice in last 6 months (4 weeks off the road). Same problem each time, engine "loses" third and fourth gear - its like 1,2,5. No acceleration, manual override on auto box does not improve/ change situation. First time in the workshop they replaced ECU. "That'll fix it", they said. Second time in the shop they replaced the sensor in the inlet manifold. "That'll definitely fix it", they said.
Problem still occurs - every 150-200 miles.
Third time lucky?
Anyone have any suggestions as to cause/ similar experience?

I had almost the same problem with gear box. After changing this and that, they finally changed the gearbox completely. That helped.
