That's a great price. Is that the wholesale price? I called, and was quoted the $740 price. Do you know who you spoke with?

Thanks,

As I understand it the air bag itself needs to be swapped out, this is why the part is so expensive.

That's no longer offered for 2005. They now say that the heated option is not available with the wood/leather steering wheel option.

Probably because the heat was where your hands weren't...

wood definately makes a difference...just take a look....

notice how even the sport shift knob that i changed to a wooden one gives the car a more, classy, richer look....

I prefer driving with a full leather steering wheel for the consistent grip. I am an aggressive driver. With a wood/leather steering wheel, I often don't feel an immediate driver/car interaction because of the slickness of the wood. Sometimes my hand noticeably slips accross the wheel. A full leather steering wheel is kinda like having ESP for the steering wheel. It would be nice if MB were to offer a wheel like Jaguar -- wood all around with a leather insert for grip.

Having said that, I still voted for the wood/leather wheel in this poll and ordered one for my E500. I think the total appearance it provides (and apparent resale value) compensates for its foibles.

i have to agree....

when i drive more agressive. i notice that i automatically grip the leather parts of the steering wheel.

And sometimes my hand sweats and i carry a little rag in the car just to wipe my hands and the steering wheel.

Lyrixmajor,
Darn the interior looks really good. Now I really want a wood/leather steering wheel.

I have to agree. The wood/leather steering wheel combines very well with the wood trim. My car has the stone interior and the pic below shows how this feature enhances my car's interior.

Just picked up the wood/leather steering wheel for $565. Pretty good price, unless Scorchie's price is better (but I forgot to inquire).

Atssytems, how does it look in your car, and are you happy you took the plunge?

Yeah.. The wheel looks great.

The thing that I really like about it and I never seen it mentioned anywhere is that when you are sitting at a light it is so glossy that it really attracts your and the attention of the people around you. In the evening and at night as the red, blue, green, white lights all reflect off it in a way it makes it sparkle like diamonds.. I know that is strange, but you will see what I am talking about.

The other thing I really like is that I have a daughter and sometimes my hands are sticky with something she just ate, anyways, when I get home, a simple wipe of the wheel takes any stickiness off the wheel.. Much better.

Whichever one is available (1 of 5)
As a part of the deal, the dealer replaced my leather steering wheel with the leather/wood at no charge before I drove my car out of the showroom. Now, anyone looking for a new leather steering wheel?

I actually just got the Heated Wood/Leather wheel for my 04 W211. I must say that the wood wheel completes the interior IMO. It sort of opens it up, and makes the cabin look complete. If anyone is interested I have a NON-Heated W211 Burlwood/Charcoal wheel for sale for way below dealer prices.

I think the wood wheel is a nice accent to the interior but when driving an SL at the LMT event with the top down the wheel was hot and sweaty. It also felt like the plastic wheels from the 50's...a lot thicker but still the same slick feel. I’d prefer the wood to be finished like the older Nardi wheels where you could see it was real wood and feel the wood grain through the protective finish.

Go to the MBUSA site for the grand vision tourer and the interior pics to see a more natural look of real wood...maybe this is the way MB is going.

Our 2001 E240 has the standard leather wheel and the W211 has wood wheel. I would recommend the wood wheel since it adds so much class to the car. IMO, it completely changes the look of the car. The wood is also soooo shiny and silky smooth. When coupled with the silky steering, it cannot be beaten!!!! However, if you have sweaty hands, I would advise you to go for a test drive first and see what you think. The back side of the wooden part of the wheel does have grooves in it to help with the grip so I don't think it will be a problem at all!
