Is it ok to replace the Air Filters myself?

The air filters need replacing on my 2004 E320 4Matic. My local shop says it's $40 for the parts plus labor. I found this video and it seems pretty easy. Is there a reason I should pay someone to do it for me? And is the guy in this video doing the correct method?

Thanks.

If you're confident in your ability and after watching the video comfortable with what's involved. Go for it.

Yes. Just remember that you're working on a Mercedes. In other words, if you have to force it that means you're doing it wrong.

Yes, do it yourself. Provided you aren't real dumb, as your userid suggests.

Do it! It'll be a good confidence booster. It is not rocket science and the engine is easy to work on. Next, you'll be doing oil fluid changes and other easy things. Only tip I'll throw in is after changing the filter, make sure that air filter housing is sitting on top of the intake hole. Put your hand back there and feel where the air filter housing should be sitting on the air intake hole. Should not be any gaps. Sometimes getting the air filter housing to sit properly on the 4 rubber posts can be a picky. Putting a little silicon grease, or even just some water to wet the rubber posts will help the air filter housing to slide on correctly. Watch

Then you'll be changing the plugs/coils, then the ERG valve/vacuum lines. Get the picture.

Be very gentle with the intake tubes they can sometime dry rot . all you need is a torx 20 amd a flat head make sure nothing get in the manifold very unlikely but still. also dont forget to put that clip in the back .

The screws that hold the plastic engine cover on are torx. On my diesel, I’ve stripped some out of the intake manifold and I’m a careful guy. I Heli-coiled the holes M-6 and all was good but I think even a reputable shop would just NOT put the screws back in.

FWIW, I think doing it myself and being **** about ‘doing it right’ is one of the reasons my CDI has 230,000 miles and runs like new.

YES! universal tools will not work. They would "strip " the screw. The torx fits exactly and makes the job easier to complete. STOP believing that interweb all your life.
Just my humble opinion

Similar but related question on my '08 e350, I have the tools and OEM filters and ready to start. However, the air intake connectors will not just "pop off" as the many YT videos suggest, nor are my intake hoses corrugated to flex, allowing space for the connectors to come off of the air box. I have twisted them slightly to loosen and that worked but no luck in getting them to detach. Thanks for any suggestions.

you need to start somewhere, and this likely ranks as the easiest task after gassing up followed by checking the air in your tires.
That video is a good start. You'll need that torx bit. if you're a cheapo you can get a one off torx screwdriver.
The cover fits on the engine at five points...the intake at the rear, and four points at the corners of the box. there are a set of four metal claws on the box that fit tightly over four rubber ***** on the engine. check everything closely as these parts sometimes distort or break. you can live for a little while if one or two are not tip top, but you should get them replaced. After fitting the intake feel with your hand that the other points are fitting correctly. everything should snap into place when pushed down sharply. you'll be fine if you don't do anything dumb.
