Unhappy 2005 E500 Will not start

My 2005 E500 was just fine until this morning. Got in, turned key fob and lights on console flashed, clock hands turned around a couple times, then nothing. Can not turn steering wheel, gear shifter will not move, fob will not open or close doors or trunk. Car has 94000 miles, has been maintained regularly and other than an issue with the seats not moving (which a mechanic fixed in about 5 minutes) its been a great car. So - is it time to invest a pot load of money in this vehicle? Please give me a place to start before I call a mechanic. Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds to me like you have a battery on it's way out. Turn key to position 1, push reset button (left side of instrument cluster) 3 times to display battery voltage. Or. just try a jumpstart

Check your battery connections. Are they clean and tight?
