Rear window defroster not working properly

Hello All - I was wondering if anyone else experienced a problem with the rear window defroster. I was looking over the SB's on my previous post and noticed the rear window defroster is not working properly. I checked it again this morning and the top 6 heating lines in the rear window does not work at all. But, the rest of the window defrosts properly all the way down the window. Is this the case with other W211's or is it just mine? Is this normal? From the SB's, it sounds that other have reported this. Has anyone fixed this issue and know what's involved? I wonder if they have to replace the window?

Thanks

Mine is the same, but there are also two lines right in the centre of the screen (between the two vertical lines) that do not heat either. Due for service in a few weeks so was going to get it looked at then.

Anyone know how they fix this? Is it a full replacement of the window?

If there is a smal space in the lines, they can be connected on the surface of the glass with stuff in a pinhole tube the shops use. (Yechhh). Otherwise it is a full glass replacement.

Beware if they replace your rear window - the local MB dealership scratched the paint in several places when they had to replace my GPS antenna (on my previous E500)... and after 5 visits they still had not completely repaired it.

You must apologize in advance to your personal (same one every time) service advisor/writer-upper, and advise them the you are an ****, microscopic, nearsighted car owner while you slip them a $20 every time you come in to DROP THE CAR OFF for something new. (Not on a come-back if it ever should be necessary). They will then learn to deal with your picky-a$$ self & will always route your car to the best, most carefully trained technician for the job you have ordered.

I have done this for years, and always apologize for the freak that I am, and tell them I couldn't deal with a customer like me, but to please understand. I have always been satisfied with the work performed, and the personal attention I get. I just can't help what I am when it concerns my personal car.
