Integrated Phone - MB Only???

I just bought a used (ahh - pre-owned) '03 E500 that is pre-wired for a Motorola V60 phone. The dealer says that it only works with the V60 that MB sells. My Sprint plan is over and I want to switch to Verizon anyway. Will a regular V60 phone work? Does anyone have any info on this.

Search the archives. The answer is either "no" or "maybe", depending on your v60, witht he likelihood you can't use it. Prewired does not mean "compatible."

Whichever one is available (1 of 5)
Sprint PCS uses CDMA phone technology, so does Verizon. The same Mercedes V60 Phone with Sprint PCS service can be switched over to Verizon with no problem. I have the Mercedes V60 also with another carrier, then I switched to Verizon two weeks ago. You must have the Mercedes V60 to work, not generic V60, unless you add mikbox.com's device.

Taken from MikBox.com

Following cars are supported:
-All Mercedes Benz cars that are equipped with a D2B system, which is almost all cars MY 1999-2004, except the W211 (2003 and later E-class), and the 2004 S class.

I was at the dealer today and they said the price of the V60i was reduced from $595 to $505. They are expecting new V600 and V710 phones. they are not sure if they are compatible and don't have part numbers yet.

I've seen V60's on ebay for $199. With cell phones being replaced every 2 years (due to normal wear and tear), it seems a shame that MB stoops to adding chips to integrate to their phone rather than car adaptors to fit your phone.

According to the post searches, weinschela is right on the mark.

I'll wait a few weeks fo see what new phones will work.

A non MB phone will not work unless you go with that adapter from MikBox.

I read this in the NJ section of the NY Times: They were looking for a slogan for NJ:

Our gas is cheaper than yours - and we don't have to pump it ourselves.

Gotta love the Garden State.
