Fuel Pump Problems
Just got the fuel pump replaced by the dealer, do you guys think it's normal to replace the fuel pump for an one-year-old car??
Many tks for any feedback.
B.Rgds.,
Steven
We could not figure why this happen, but we think it may be the different gas quality between US and Spain.
I had other US cars in Spain and nothing happened to the fuel pump, but the difference with my sister is that I use premium gas (although it is not mandatory to use premium), while she used standard gas.
(Regular unleaded is 95, and premium is 98, but I do not think it is the same standard for the us - 91, 93).
One difference though, the US cars that I am talking about are not sold in Europe (I imported it directly from the States), therefore may not be prepared for Europe regular gas standards
I do not know if you are in the same case or even if this is the cause, but just my experience.
The difference in octane rating is because of the rating system, RON vs MON. They are actually the same octane, just rated differently.
BTW, my parents are from Spain, and I have spent around 4 years there throughout my life.

Thanks for the information Marcus.
Then maybe the problem has nothing to do with gas differences.
By the way, do you know if the system to make gas is same all around the world?.
I heard that although the gas has to be the same, each company puts different additives to the end product to make differentiation with other competitors.
As well I heard that in the same way the bottom of the gas tank of any car is dirty with residue, some Gas Stations buy the gas from the central gas manufacturer at lower prices if they get this bottom of the plant gas which may have residues from the start, and so the gas stations can offer gas discounts to their clients.
Just myth, or is it possible.
I am happy to hear you come to Spain sometimes (hope you like it). I spent 4 years total in West Haven, CT, getting my Bachelors degree about 8 years ago. Good Experience indeed.
