Android head unit, HK tuner

So after a bit of research I purchased an Xtrons Android head unit LINK for my 2003 E55. It has factory Harman Kardon sound so I purchased the MOST adaptor. Installed and everything works fine, except the tuner. Being HK sound, the tuner resides in the amp in the trunk (no antenna connection on the NTG-1 COMAND head unit). Initial communications with Xtrons indicated that the tuner in the HK amp SHOULD work with their head unit via the CAN interface but after some back and forwards it was all too hard and they've sent me a ****ty looking FM antenna to connect to their head unit.

Has anyone got the same setup that's successfully utilising the HK tuner or is this not a thing?

Not completely following you. The tuner is what is used to pick up radio stations. Your Android unit has a built-in tuner, so you don't need the HK tuner. Are you saying you can't pickup any radio stations? The factory antenna connection point is in the back of the car and does not run to the front of the car to connect to the HK dash unit, so if you didn't run anything to the back of the car to connect to the factory antenna, then your Android tuner likely wouldn't pickup any stations because it doesn't have an antenna.

If that's your problem, you can look at the first post of this thread.... he goes through the factory GPS and antenna connection points and adapters needed. FWIW, I never could get the factory mic to work right with my Android unit, I gave up and ran the tiny little one that came with it to just below the instrument cluster. Radio reception on my Android unit is not nearly as good as factory. I just use Tune-In radio though and that resolves that issue.

Thanks for the info. There was some language barrier issues in communicating with Xtrons and during this process I thought there might be possibility of using the factory HK tuner. Since obtaining the right antenna connections the Android HU tuner works ok. Thanks.

You can use the factory antenna but you’ll have to run a long fakra cable to the rear of the car to make the connection. It’s the black fakra connector at the amp, take it off the amp and connect it to your xtrons head unit via the long fakra cable and you should be good to go.

This is the one I used:

Bingfu Fakra Z Female to Male Vehicle Antenna Extension Cable 5m 16.5 feet for Car Stereo Android Head Unit GPS Navigation FM AM Radio Sirius XM Satellite Radio 4G LTE TEL Telematics Bluetooth Module
