I went looking in the documented location for the auxillary battery in my 2008 E300 4-matic (i.e. engine compartment rear right side, under the cabin filter) with the intention of replacing it and nothing was there. Is it possibly located somewhere else? Or is it possible this year of E-class was not outfitted with an auxillary battery? Last 6 digits of the VIN is 283569.
The auxiliary battery was dropped with the 2007 facelift. It was only used to provide emergency power to the SBC braking system in the event power from the car's electrical system is lost due to a dead main battery, electrical malfunction, collision, etc. When the SBC system went away so did the need for the auxiliary battery, at least in the E. IIRC the S-class still has an aux battery due to the heavy electrical load.
