I have a 2003 E320. I have a popping noise in by speakers even when the radio is off. If the radio is on I get the popping noise and the sound will go away and at various times will return.
Try sticking to one thread it seems your inquiries are all related. 03 or 04 e320, factor you were looking into replacing with aftermarket. Was head unit update successful, see attachments could be ground (no need to replace bracket) could be AGW overheating (no need to mount fan, simply replace with newer component). Post VIN I will supply compatible part #(s) if you want.
I did replace the head unit on 10-19-20 and it was successful.
I don't think the AGW has a fan so I would like part number please for compatible AGW.
The reason I went with another thread is once I had the head unit replaced I did not have a problem until now and this problem seems to be different.
The sound was coming and going before and now I have the popping noise (even when head unit is off) as well as sound coming and going when head unit is on.
If ground is fine and replacement needed, avoid original 2118272142 and shop current 2118706989 working your way back given your budget each replacement usually indicates modification. Normally AGW is plug & play but if you have any problems after install may need to transfer data using MB diagnostics as noted in attachment posted previously.
