CONVERTING XENON TO LED POSSIBLE?
I SWAPPED THE BALLAST AND BULB with the leftside good ones .
Put the MB computer on it to see if any codes and YES . It reads "defective right side headlight "
I bought another RS headlight assembly from a donated E550 with a busted housing . I stripped it down and removed all the internals .
Now I want to remove the headlight on the car , strip it down and replace all the internals ( as best I can ) with the parts from the scrapyard donated car .
My question is : Am I wasting my time ? This scrapyard headlight already cost me $200 and hours to disassemble the bumper ,wheels, wheelwells, etc .
IF ANYONE HAS OR HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE AND COULD ASSIST ME i WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL !!!!!!! ( sorry for caps )
I am very frustrated with this because the new headlight assembly here in Canada is over $1000 with AFS , cornering light , etc etc
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here they do sell aftermarket assemblies, but they don't include the ballast or the motors and they're under $200 so you would normally swap all the parts over. The headlight assembly is now cheaper in the US, down to $552, I think they were over $1500 years ago.

1/ after I switched the good ballast and bulb from good side ( left) to bad side ( right) the badside worked for a while and then it started again .... intermittent on and off of low beam and code on dash . this is what puzzles me . the ballast I switched from bad side is working fine on the leftside ( good side) .
2/ I don't know if it is the lightsensor behind the mirror
- another bad bulb although it was changed twice . Phillips and Osram
--maybe faulty wiring going to Sam module
- etc etc etc ..
I am afraid that at the end of this frustrating BS I will land up having to buy a new headlight assembly .But I will keep searching for the problem . I hate to give up to MB's /Hella and their crap !!!!!
Anymore ideas to try is greatly appreciated and maybe when we find the answer it will help countless others that have the same headache .
be well

First thing I did was a retrofit to LED, which is basically a D2S Led Kit; as simple as plug and play because they come with a module to avoid error codes, no need to do wiring or coding. So far working perfect.
It's a DIY job but if you don't feel confortable doing so take it to a shop, it's cheap and simple; just pick the best LED bulbs possible.
