E320 CDI power steering leak

I have a 2006 E320 CDI with 60,000 miles on it. When I first bought the car I noticed the power steering level was a little low so I topped it off. Over the past year I have had to periodically top it off. Then I noticed that the area all around the power steering pump was dirty and covered in fluid.
Is it a normal problem for these power steering pumps to leak like that? Do I need to replace the whole pump & reservoir to fix it or is it just a bad seal in the steering lines? Also The steering works and doesn't make any weird noise provided the fluid level is good.

no it is not normal, however its not a simple as you make out-- first you have to determine the cause of the leak and taking the system apart so be it
