2005 E500 Sport

HELP CAR WONT MOVE OR START

While accelerating to switch lanes in my 2005 E500 RWD the car completely slipped out of gears into neutral it felt like. so I pull over to see if the gears would engaged in P, D, N, Etc but no luck the car would only rev and not move so I tried to restart the car but when I turned it off it wouldn’t turn back on and wouldn’t even crank. Prior to this happening I was having problems with my transmission slipping while cold. My guess is the transmission is cooked. But why wouldn’t it start ??? pls help thanks in advance

Does the car recognize what gear it is in? If it doesn't think it is in P or N the starter won't engage. If it doesn't think it is in gear it isn't going to go.

Could be shift mechanism (visual inspection) or control module, etc. that (as suggested) will require having someone pull fault codes using MB diagnostics.
