Maiden voyage in my 2006 e320 and some new / old issues..
Drove it into work for the first time. Smooooth ride, 43mpg, nice... New issues found!
- upshifts nice, but refuses to downshift, with do so with the + and - on the stick.
- Hasnt done this since i got it, but i got to work and parked. It wont go into park. Had to leave it in drive.
- temp wont go above 130deg F. Im guessing thermostat.
I did full fluid services when i got it, installed new trans filter, gasket, fluid and external cooler, as i know the internal radiator ones mix sometimes. New oil and fuel filter.
Is the downshifting and refusal to go into park related?

Update!
Left a battery charger on it for the past hour and poof, goes into park...low voltage? Alt charging at 14.2... bad battery?
Update again!
No brake lights, easy peasy switch.
Now, onto the trans issues...

What prompted you to put it on charge? Surely engine was running when you tried to shift to P so system would have been at 14.2v? You may be trying to draw a connection between two unrelated issues? I am guessing you have a voltmeter, use it on the battery when recently charged and ignition turned off. 12.7v or above battery is ok,12.1v or below battery probably bad, in between is probably OK. If it will crank the engine then it should be good enough to run the electrics with engine off for a short time at least. Mine sits at 12.5v at rest and drops to 12.1v if not run for a couple of weeks so I reckon it is good for a couple of years!

Its what allowed it to go into park last time. But you are right, no correlation. It was the brale light switch, just coincidence it worked.
Thats in and shifting out of, and back into park is now normal.
Onto why it wont downshift on its own. Only error code in the TCM is for the RR wheel speed sensor.
