Turned in ED car to Harms in Munich...
And there were 6 other E-classes there...all CDIs!!!
Two had the new center console. It wraps the plastic right against the back of the shifter surround and then covers the center with a wood rolling door. I have no idea how the cup holders, storage area, and phone all fit in there!
David
P.S.
While E-class cars are very common everywhere, we have been seeing a very large number of the new Audi A6s. I commented that we had seen more of the new A6s than of the E60 BMWs which had been out nearly a year longer. And then we saw 6 E60s on the same block!

David - did you happen to see a US spec SLK350 at Harms in Munich? (Iridium silver, berry red seats, wood trim kit.) It was left at the Munich hotel over the weekend for pick up by Harms. Just curious if they gave you any info on getting the cars on their way to the port and a most probable sailing date? I assume they wait until they have enough to fill a hauler and then truck them up to Bremmen. Hope you enjoyed last week's beautiful weather as much as we did. (I thought I saw your car in the Interalpen hotel's parking garage, but then remembered you had ordered it in white. You are correct, a majority of the Euro delivery cars I saw were the E Classs CDI diesels. I took heed to your suggestion to look for the new CLS class cars at the factory. Also ran into lots of car carriers filled with them. I understand their German launch is this month. Only saw one on the road though and it was clearly a test car with some type of lettering across it suggesting power by other than petrol or diesel.)

Didn't see your SLK...but getting the earlier ED on it is definitely the way to go. I think that car will set the new standard in its class for the next few years.
IMHO the new console is a cost saving item. Clearly a lot less expensive to build. I'm not sure it is less attractive, however the curved center section will not be as nice an armrest. And I am wondering how they resolved the phone and the cup holder, or does the phone eliminate the cup holder?
