It would likely work but the "cheap" standard is the icarsoft mb2 for about 150. There's a newer version out for a few dollars more, and an old version for a bit less. It's a dedicated Mercedes scanner and can read pretty much every system on the car- and there are a lot.

I would get the Thinkcar Pro. The ThinkOBD is a more basic scanner that just does OBDII codes, doesn't do MB specific system codes. Not too much more for the Pro. Launch is actually a big name, I've used their older code readers.
